Why We Love It
Although we here at Analog/Shift deal primarily in vintage watches, certain modern watches resonate with us.
For many of us, before we strapped our first watches onto our wrists, we were car guys. Whether our first love was a 1930s Packard or a 1960s Porsche 718, we longed to slip behind the wheel and take a spin around our favorite local race course. Although watches might now be our main stock in trade, we’ve never forgotten our love for cars.
There’s a symbiotic relationship between watches and automobiles, and no one understands that better than Bradley Price, founder of Autodromo.
Bradley is someone who just gets cars, and imbues his passion into each product (or “motoring instrument”) he designs for Autodromo, a brand he founded in 2011.
As lovers of both watches and cars, this is something we can really get behind, and have counted some of his creations in our personal collections over the years.
We’re extremely proud to be able to offer for sale this limited edition box set of three Monoposto Chronographs, the last new, unworn set on the planet.
The Story
The Monoposto–literally meaning “single seat”—was created to recall a simpler era of Grand Prix racing, when the only information the driver had was contained in a few oversized dials and the seat of his pants.
In this golden age, things were a little less mathematical than today. Since there were no rev limiters or electronic aids to keep the driver from blowing up his engine, well intentioned mechanics would commonly apply a strip of red tape, or a line of red paint on the glass of the rev counter to make sure the driver knew his engine’s limit at a glance. Autodromo pays homage to this humble practice with our own “redline” crystal. The handmade leather strap and roller buckle are also designed to evoke the leather bonnet straps found on Grand Prix cars of this era.
The Monoposto was originally produced as a Limited Edition time-only watch in 2012. It went on to achieve something of a cult status after selling out in a matter of months. Autodromo is proud to re-release the Monoposto as our very first Automatic Chronograph.
For the Autodromisti that has everything, we have produced an extremely limited edition boxed set containing 3 matching numbers Monoposto Chronographs. There are only 12 sets, comprising the first 12 examples of each color. This is set number six of 12.
The set comes in a custom made wooden box shaped to resemble the air cleaner of a Colombo V-12 engine, complete with firing order plaque. The lid is inlaid with leather pads to protect the watch crystals.
